Even though South Africa must have convincingly lost to New Zealand in the 2nd semi-final of the Champions Trophy on Wednesday, centurion from the match, David Miller has thrown his weight behind the Kiwis. “I’ll be honest with you. I think I’ll be supporting New Zealand,” he said.

David Miller to Support NZ in Champions Trophy Final

Meanwhile, South Africa have had a lengthy tournament of sorts, where they flew out of Karachi last Sunday, to Dubai, in anticipation to prepare for India in the semis. But soon, it turned out, it would be Australia, they flew back to Lahore, in less than 12 hours. Though Miller did not use it as a reason for the loss, but conceded, it wasn’t ideal. “It’s only an hour-and-40-minute flight, but the fact that we had to do that [was not ideal],” Miller said.

“It’s early morning, it’s after a game, and we had to fly. Then we got to Dubai at 4pm. And at 7.30 in the morning we had to come back. It doesn’t make it nice. It’s not like we flew five hours, and we had enough time to recover and recuperate. But it was not an ideal situation still.”

No Excuse for Semi-final Loss

David Miller went on to say that despite South Africa’s good batting, and good batting conditions, it was a huge total to chase down. “It’s not easy chasing 360 [363] even if it’s a good wicket. There was no dew, so I think the wicket just deteriorated as the game went on. They spun the ball a lot more than us. It’s just they got a little bit more purchase out of the wicket.”

Lastly, he did not resort to making any predictions for the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand. “They’re both incredibly good teams,” Miller said. “India have shown the world how really good they are. They’ve been playing some good cricket for a number of years now and they’ve got some seriously good players. It’s going to be a great game.”
