Harry Kane has entered the top three of English players with the most Champions League knockout goals after his goal against Bayer Leverkusen.
The Bayern Munich centre-forward brought up his eighth Champions League goal of the season in Wednesday night’s last-16 first leg at the Allianz Arena.

It’s just his second goal against Bayern’s Bundesliga rivals on what is his fifth appearance having drawn a blank in his last three outings against Xabi Alonso‘s men.
And Kane will be hoping his goal will prove vital in the Bavarian outfit securing a quarter-final spot, with the winner of the tie to meet the victor of Feyenoord against Inter Milan.
His latest strike is a record-extending 37th goal in the Champions League for an English player – seven ahead of closest rival Wayne Rooney.
But the Tottenham icon is still someway behind Frank Lampard‘s record haul of knockout goals in Europe’s premier competition.
Kane’s goal against Leverkusen was his eighth beyond the group stage.
It has seen him equal Raheem Sterling‘s tally in the Champions League, with the Arsenal loanee seeking his first knockout goal since the 2022/23 season.
Kane had been level with Manchester City playmaker Phil Foden on seven.
And he will now be eyeing up chasing Lampard – and Rooney – to claim another record of his own.

With two knockout goals already in the Champions League this term, Kane is looking to improve on his personal record of four, which he set last season.
He scored against Lazio, Arsenal and against Madrid from the last-16 to the semi-finals as Bayern lost in heartbreaking fashion in the last-four at the Bernabeu.
Since his move to Bayern from Spurs in August 2023, no player has scored more Champions League goals than Kane.
He had been level with Kylian Mbappe, but Kane now leads the way having found the back of the net on 16 occasions for the German giants.
