After a season filled with ups and downs, the New Orleans Saints are heading into free agency looking to strengthen their roster and make a serious playoff push. With key areas in need of reinforcements, smart signings could make all the difference. Here are the top five free agents the Saints should target this offseason.

Once again, the New Orleans Saints find themselves in salary cap hell, dead last in the league with -$47.1 million in effective cap space. So, re-signing talent will be a theme here, and we’ll start with edge rusher Chase Young. Young signed a one-year prove-it deal with the Saints last offseason and didn’t prove much, placing him in the same boat this offseason.
2. Haason Reddick — EDGE, New York Jets
If New Orleans wants to replace Young with a cheaper option that still fits a team’s No. 2 pass rusher mold, Haason Reddick will be looking for a prove-it or short-term deal this offseason. PFF has him projected at $12.5 million AAV, about $5 million less than where they have Chase Young. Reddick’s trade to New York and his holdout, coupled with a down season, could create a perfect stop-gap signing for the cap-starved Saints.
3. Darius Slayton — WR, New York Giants
Darius Slayton has consistently produced solid WR2 numbers with 700 yards and 15 yards per reception in four of his first five seasons in the league. At 28, PFF has him projected to command a three-year deal with an AAV of $12.5 million. Derek Carr needs another weapon, and New Orleans is shopping on a budget.

Justin Fields played serviceably during his brief stint as the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh but showed many of the same warts that led to the Chicago Bears moving on from him. New Orleans has said they’re sticking with Derek Carr, but a contingency plan behind him makes some sense at the right price.
5. Juwan Johnson — TE, New Orleans Saints
It’s slim-pickings at the tight end position in free agency, so New Orleans should look to re-sign their TE1 Juwan Johnson. Johnson was serviceable in 2024 and is only 28. He’ll come in around $10 million AAV, and that’s about where New Orleans needs to be.
