Today’s report from Ian Rapoport regarding Jaire Alexander would be music to the ears of Caleb Williams.
We’re two weeks away from the opening of the NFL’s free agency period, and these two weeks are often littered with transaction news, such as contract extensions, franchise tags, and trade discussions, as teams prepare to reshape their roster through free agency and the NFL Draft over the next eight to ten weeks. According to Ian Rapoport, Bears fans could be getting some good news in the near future with Green Bay shopping cornerback Jaire Alexander.
NFL Media’s insider said the Packers have had trade conversations centered around Alexander and are open to moving him for the right price.

This isn’t the trade speculation that Bears fans will appreciate because it involves a potential roster addition. Still, the subtraction of an All-Pro cornerback from their most hated rival next season should be seen as a plus if that happens.
Alexander, 28, becomes the most attractive cornerback option on the market if Green Bay is serious about trading him. This year’s free agent class features New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed and San Francisco’s Charvarius Ward as the prized jewels of the class, which is pretty underwhelming.
On January 16, during the team’s season-ending press conference, GM Brian Gutekunst was asked about Alexander’s future in Green Bay, and Gutekunst had this to say:
“We’ll see,” Gutekunst said when asked if Alexander will be on the team in 2025. “We’re working through that. He certainly could be. But we’ll work through that as we go.”

In 2023, he was limited to seven games with a PCL tear, which required a knee scope. It was the second straight season he was limited to seven games. Alexander missed time in 2023 due to various injuries and a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
Over the past four seasons, Alexander has missed half of the possible games played, leading to the Packers searching for a trade partner for the talented cornerback (when he’s on the field). You know what they say: availability is a player’s best ability.
When Alexander is on the field, he’s a potential lockdown corner who recorded five interceptions and 14 pass breakups in 2022 when he was last named an All-Pro. As far as the Bears are concerned, seeing Alexander leave Green Bay would be excellent. Alexander has done some of his best work against Chicago, recording three interceptions, nine passes defended, and 37 tackles in 11 games against the Bears.
