Cubs vs Diamondbacks — The Chicago Cubs remain undefeated on the spring, and they’ve got a lineup more than half-full of Opening Day starters this afternoon. Let’s see if they can keep the good times rolling against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Sloan Park. Oh, and this one will be televised on Marquee. So that’s nice.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Ian Happ, LF Kyle Tucker, DH Seiya Suzuki, RF Dansby Swanson, SS Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Carson Kelly, C Jon Berti, 3B Vidal Brujan, 2B Jonathan Long, 1BIf you squeezed Michael Busch between Seiya Suzuki and Dansby Swanson, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was close to the exact top six members in the Cubs lineup come opening day (i.e. Happ, Tucker, Suzuki, Busch, Swanson, PCA …).
The only question would be if you wanted to move Nico Hoerner up above Pete Crow-Armstrong, behind Dansby Swanson, but breaking up those righties might be nice. It all just depends on how advanced PCA’s bat is at the start of the season. If he’s hitting the way he was in the second half of last season, it’d be a no-brainer. But he’s still young and provides value in so many other ways. I don’t think we need to set our expectations too high to start the year. Plus, working your way up a lineup is a useful developmental process, in and of itself.
But we’ve got a ways to go before this conversation becomes necessary. For now, we can just enjoy the spring.

Chicago Cubs: Jameson Taillon, RHP
Jameson Taillon is making his first appearance of the spring and starting his third season as a member of the Chicago Cubs. Last season, Taillon got off to a strong start, with a 2.96 ERA over his first 100.1 IP. He wasn’t striking many batters out (19.1%), but he limited the walks and hard contact enough to be successful. And with a strong defense all around him this season, playing to contact could work again (even if it lends itself to some bouts of ineffectiveness if the balls don’t find gloves). That happened for six starts late last July through August, and it wasn’t pretty: 6.55 ERA over 33.0 IP.
