Quinn Ewers battled more severe injury than originally reported during 2024, per report ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Quinn Ewers played through an ailment for much of the 2024 season. However, the true nature of the injury to the star quarterback is reportedly more severe than originally believed.

During the season, Ewers was lifted during Texas‘s matchup against UTSA with an injury. He would miss games against Louisiana Monroe and Mississippi State before returning to the lineup against Oklahoma and finishing the rest of the season.

At the time, head coach Steve Sarkisian described the injury as an oblique and abdominal strain for Ewers. But leading up to the NFL Combine, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports that Ewers actually sustained a torn oblique and that injury actually happened even earlier in the season than the UTSA game.

“I’m told that he is fully recovered now from a torn oblique that he played with basically the entire season,” said Pelissero. “It happened in the Michigan game, it got worse over the course of time, but he is healthy now, his weight is up to 215 pounds.”

That is encouraging to hear that Ewers is back to full health, and Pelissero also reports he is expected to throw during the combine in Indy. In a weak QB class, the Longhorn starter has a chance to solidify his spot as the No. 3 QB and potentially create some debate over who should be the 2nd QB taken with a strong performance.

In spite of that severe ailment, Ewers still finished with 3,472 passing yards and a career-high 31 touchdowns as Texas advanced all the way to the College Football Playoff semifinals with a Cotton Bowl loss to Texas.
