Deputies arrested a young man suspected of killing his newborn son Wednesday in Spring Valley.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station responded to a home in the 500 block of Sacramento Avenue around 1:20 p.m. after a report of a battery.
They found a baby boy unconscious on the living room floor, suffering from head trauma. Paramedics from the San Miguel Fire Department treated him, but the infant was pronounced dead at the scene.
David Ruiz, 22, was arrested on suspicion of murder in his baby’s death. Authorities did not specify the child’s age.
The motive and circumstances that led to the newborn’s death remain unclear, officials said in a statement.
