THE Pittsburgh Steelers have added a new quarterback after turning down Shedeur Sanders in last week’s 2025 NFL Draft.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have seemingly revealed their quarterback plan for the upcoming season.

They’re also heavily linked with Aaron Rodgers, but the 41-year-old’s been contemplating retirement, and he likely won’t play more than one season if he does return to football.
The Steelers showed interest in numerous quarterbacks, including Deion Sanders‘ son, the Buffaloes star Shedeur, in the pre-draft process.
But they snubbed Sanders and Jaxson Dart with their first-round pick, and instead chose to select Ohio State’s Will Howard in the sixth round.
The iconic franchise drafted Howard with the No. 185 selection.
Sanders, meanwhile, fell to the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns traded up to acquire him with the No. 144 pick.
The Steelers passed on the quarterback position and Sanders, for a defensive tackle with their No. 21 overall pick, added a running back in Round 3, another defensive tackle in the fifth before taking Howard.
Pittsburgh seems to have faith in Rodgers eventually signing with the team.
Rodgers met with the team’s facility last month.
Steelers owner Art Rooney seemed to insinuate that Rodgers has given them signs that he’ll join the franchise in the near future.
“We’re still kind of getting the same signals we’ve been getting recently that he does want to come here,” Rooney said on Steelers Nation Radio.
“I do think we may get word soon obviously with things starting to crank up here with the offseason program, etc.
“If he’s coming, would like to get him here soon for some of that.”
Tomlin also said during an appearance on NFL Network that the Steelers have had “really productive” talks with Rodgers.

But Rooney revealed that any quarterback added through the draft will likely be a developmental project.
With the 2025 NFL Draft over, the Steelers will have their eyes set on OTAs (Organized Team Activities), which begin on May 21.
