As the Jacksonville Jaguars begin their second round of interviews for their general manager opening, another NFL insider mentioned Bears’ assistant GM Ian Cunningham as a name to watch as this process continues to unfold.
Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network mentioned recently that while the second round of interviews still have to take place, Cunningham may be a “top candidate’ for the GM role in Jacksonville.
“Talking to a couple people in Duval, told me to keep an eye on Bears’ assistant general manager Ian Cunningham,” said Wolfe. “They’ll certainly go through a second round of interviews, but he’s a name that has certainly popped up as a top candidate for that job.”
Decision on new Jaguars GM is expected this weekend as they finish 2nd interviews with finalists. Then, focus on work to improve the squad. Keep an eye on defense additions, in particular, in free agency under new DC Anthony Campanile.

This also isn’t the first time that we’ve heard Cunningham’s name being strongly connected to the Jaguars’ GM job.
Before interviews even began, ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned that Cunningham was a name to watch. Then before the first round of interviews were even completed, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer also mentioned Cunningham as someone to keep our eyes on.
Cunningham has now interviewed numerous times for other GM openings in recent years. He’s twice been a finalists for the Tennessee job, was a finalists for the Washington opening as well, and reportedly turned down the Arizona job in 2023.
Cunningham has been the Bears’ assistant GM for the last three seasons. He got his start as a college scout with the Baltimore Ravens under Ozzie Newsome and was a part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl run in 2017.
Also interviewing along with Cunningham are Packers VP of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan, Jaguars interim GM Ethan Waugh, Rams Director of Scouting James Gladstone, and 49ers Director of Scouting and Football Operations Josh Williams.
