Evacuation orders lifted in Malibu after last week’s storm ...Middle East

MALIBU — Evacuation orders issued in Malibu during last week’s rainstorm have been lifted, the city announced Monday, Feb. 17.

The Malibu area experienced mud and debris flow from at-times heavy rainfall Wednesday through Friday while continuing to recover from January’s Palisades Fire.

Mandatory evacuations were issued Thursday morning for dozens of homes in Malibu.

The following areas had evacuation orders lifted Monday:

— Carbon Canyon

— Carbon Beach East

— La Costa Beach, La Costa (hillside)

— Las Flores Creek

— Las Flores Mesa

— Eastern Malibu

— Big Rock

— Las Tunas Beach

— Topanga Beach Road

— Carbon Beach Terrace

— Carbon Beach

— Rambla Pacifico

— Carbon Beach West/Malibu Beach

— Sweetwater Canyon

— Sweetwater Mesa

— Serra Retreat

— Malibu Creek

— Cross Creek

— Malibu Colony

— Civic Center

— Malibu Knolls

— Malibu Road

— Malibu Country Estates

— Puerco Canyon.

Pacific Coast Highway remains closed to the general public between Chautauqua Boulevard in Pacific Palisades and Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced that Malibu Canyon Road had fully reopened after being closed Friday as a part of safety precautions owing to heavy rains in the area.

Officials also announced that beginning Tuesday, City Hall will be accepting walk-in counter visits and initial rebuild consultations to help homeowners explore the next steps in rebuilding properties damaged or destroyed in the fire and/or mudslides.

The counter will be open from 8 a.m. to noon, with virtual appointments available at MalibuRecovers@malibucity.org, or 310-456-2489, ext. 390.
