Alabama expects to have freshman forward Derrion Reid available on Saturday when it hosts No. 1 Auburn, according to a report from basketball insider Jeff Goodman.
Reid, a 6-foot-8 win for the Crimson Tide, has not played since Feb. 1. In 17 appearances this season, he averages 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Reid was officially listed as questionable on the availability report Alabama submitted to the SEC Friday night.
According to EvanMiya, Reid has been part of Alabama’s 2 most efficient lineups this season and 3 of its top 5. He’s a rangy athlete who can attack a defender off the dribble and provide serious rebounding help inside.
The second-ranked Tide will be as close to full strength as they have been in weeks when they host Auburn in what figures to be one of the biggest games in program history.
It’s just the sixth time in the history of college basketball that teams from the same state will meet in a game between AP No. 1 and No. 2 teams. And it’ll be the first AP No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup between SEC teams in conference history. A win for the Tide would set a new program record for victories over AP-ranked opponents in a single season, and it would give coach Nate Oats a fourth win over a top-10 team.
