The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly making another addition to Liam Coen’s offensive coaching staff.
First on Friday it was reported that the Jaguars were adding former Las Vegas Raiders assistant quarterbacks coach Fred Walker to Coen’s coaching staff.
Then, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports would report that the Jaguars were also adding Western Michigan’s co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Trevor Mendelson as an offensive assistant as well.
Sports Illustrated’s G5 Football Daily said that Mendelson is considered an “up-and-comer” in the coaching ranks.
The 2024 season was Mendelson’s first as the co-offensive coordinator at Western Michigan. Before that, he spent two seasons as the team’s offensive line coach.
As noted on the Western Michigan team site, in Mendelson’s first season working with the offensive line, that unit helped produce a 1,000-yard rush and consensus Freshman All-American in Jalen Buckley.
Prior to joining Western Michigan, Mendelson was a senior offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach at Notre Dame where he coached under Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman.
Given Mendelson’s background in working with the offensive line, one could guess that he might be the Jaguars’ assistant offensive line coach.
Coen made it known during his introductory press conference that the play of the Jaguars’ offensive line must improve in 2025.
Without the additions of Walker and Mendelson being official, below is what the Jaguars’ current offensive coaching staff looks like:
Liam Coen, Head coach Grant Udinski, Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, Pass game coordinator Spencer Whipple, Quarterbacks coach Edgar Bennett, Wide receivers coach Richard Angulo, Tight ends coach Chad Morton, Running backs coach John Van Dam, Offensive pass game specialist Tyler Tettleton, Assistant wide receivers coach
