Looking About: February is Random Acts of Kindness Month ...Middle East

News by : (Ukiah Daily Journal) -

Feb. 17, 2025, a day serving as a reminder that gestures of goodwill – whether big or small – can have a significant positive impact on someone’s day, and even on a community as a whole.

Kindness ideas

Imagine a world where you can succeed by being nice. Where we all pay it forward. Where people look out for each other. It all starts with an act. Life is full of things beyond our control, but kindness is something we can choose to exercise every single day. During Random Acts of Kindness Month, we can celebrate some of those times when life’s randomness required a not-so-random act of kindness:

Visit a senior home and deliver a kind surprise Visit the nearest Little Library and donate a book Write positive messages on sticky notes and leave for others to find Be a friend to a lonely neighbor Be an active listener when in the company of others Be kind to people in the service industry Compliment with reckless abandon Only write positive comments online Share an uplifting song on social media (my gifting to the community, with help from friends, is this song: youtu.be/yWlSrg0gemo ) Cook a meal (or buy one and deliver) for someone who is struggling Hide handmade bookmarks in your local library Laugh often: It releases feel good chemicals Make kindness the norm Compliment a local business online Organize a community cleanup Ship a care package to someone far away from family and friends

Legendary bluegrass band

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, the legendary bluegrass band John Reischman and the Jaybirds will take the stage at the Mendocino College Center Theatre for the second concert of Ukiah Community Concert Association’s (UCCA) 77th season (1000 Hensley Creek Road).

John Reischman expressed great fondness for his early musical experiences in Ukiah, from learning his first chord progressions for a Creedence song or a 12-bar blues from his older brother, Steve, or hearing the Ford Brothers and the Poplin Brothers. “They were a little bit older than me and were just amazingly good musicians…They sounded so good that it lit a spark in me to pursue music no matter what it was stylistically.”

John graduated from Ukiah High in ’73 and went on to make musical history. The Grammy Award winner is also an exemplary team player who surrounds himself with talented people and gives them all a chance to shine.

Tickets for non-season subscribers are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Advance tickets are available on the UCCA website and at Mendocino Book Company in Ukiah and Mazahar in Willits.
