While fog is common in the region,residents have described this occurrence as “unusual,” citing differences insmell, density, and health effects.
These reports follow asimilar incident last month, when residents in various states described fogwith a metallic odor.
Others suggest thechemical smell could result from pre-existing pollutants in the air, whichbecome more pronounced in humid conditions. Health experts have also noted thatthe winter season brings an increase in respiratory illnesses, and fog couldexacerbate symptoms for individuals with underlying conditions.
