SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Heavy rain, high winds and possible thunderstorms are forecasted to move into the Bay Area by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Clouds gradually increase throughout Tuesday, leading to a slight chance of some isolated showers overnight Wednesday, mainly toward the coast. On Wednesday night, the rain begins to kick into gear, and it will stay in the region through Thursday into Friday.
Portions of the Bay Area are expected to receive up to 4 inches of rain through Friday this week, with the North Bay seeing up to 3 inches, weather officials said. Higher elevations could get up to 8 inches.

Winds on Thursday and Friday can reach gusts of up to 60 mph along the coast and ridgelines. For other regions of the Bay Area, southwesterly winds with gusts up to 40 mph are possible.
From Thursday night through Friday, forecasters warn of dangerous surf conditions with breaking waves up to 30 feet. Officials advise people to stay off jetties, piers and rocks at the coast.
