After nearly a year-long battle, the Minnesota Timberwolves will have a new owner.
ESPN’s Shams Charania announced on Monday afternoon that arbitrators have ruled in favor of Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez in the sale of the Timberwolves franchise. The announcement comes after now-former-owner Glen Taylor attempted to halt the purchase after a multi-year-long process.
Rodriguez and Lore will now have to be approved officially by the NBA’s Board of Governors. And, according to T-Wolves reporter Dane Moore, this is not expected to come with obstacles.
“We are extremely pleased with today’s decision,” Lore and Rodriguez said in a statement shared with Charania. “We look forward to working with the NBA to complete the approval process and close the transaction so that we can turn our attention to winning championships in Minnesota for our incredible fans and Twin Cities community.”

Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore initially reached an agreement with Glen Taylor in 2021 to purchase the Timberwolves and Lynx franchises in a three-step process. In late March of 2024, Taylor claimed that the two failed to meet the final payment deadline and announced that the sale would no longer proceed.
Rodriguez and Lore immediately disputed Taylor’s claims, stating that they came up with the full funds and met the sale conditions. They chalked up the reaction to “seller’s remorse” and it was soon made clear that the NBA world was in store for a legal dispute. For what it’s worth, Taylor’s decision did come in the thick of a fantastic season for the Timberwolves that ended in the Western Conference Finals.
Fast forward to today, and it appears mediators have agreed that Rodriguez and Lore did meet the terms of the agreement and are the rightful owners of the Timberwolves. Again, an official vote will now have to be cast, but it looks like they will finally have full control of the organization.
While they have been around for years, a new majority owner is always a significant change for any franchise. This is particularly true when we consider what Minnesota has accomplished in recent years, as well as the emerging superstar they have on their roster. Anthony Edwards is one of the brightest stars in the game, and the Timberwolves are well-positioned to be a mainstay in the Western Conference playoff field for years to come. Can Rodriguez and Lore make the most of that and bring a ring to Minnesota?
