DJ Moore Wouldn’t Mind Cooper Kupp Joining the Bears in 2025 ...Middle East

Today, we were saddened to learn of the passing of Bears owner and team matriarch Virgina McCaskey. For more details, please read our initial report on the news.

Yeah, I saw the clip folks have been discussing where DJ Moore says he wants Cooper Kupp as a teammate next year. So … let’s talk about it.

Chicagoan Kay Adams does an excellent job stirring the pot in all of the best ways with her NFL interviews. So when I saw that she had a sit-down with DJ Moore and Rome Odunze on her Up & Adams program, I had to check it out for myself. As you might expect, I was not disappointed in the conversation they had. While the chat went in many different directions, one clip stood out as Moore said he would like to see Cooper Kupp in a Bears uniform when asked about which wide receiver rumored to be available that he would like to see join the squad in the offseason.

Here is the clip:

It is clear in the clip above that DJ Moore isn’t banging the table for the Bears to trade for Cooper Kupp. Instead, Moore comes off like any level-headed, offensive-minded player who believes in the idea of “the more, the merrier” when it comes to adding talent to the offensive side of the ball. Even with my hangups about the fit and the need, I do appreciate Moore making a public pitch for the Bears to add offensive weapons. It is long overdue for this front office to think offense first when it comes to offseason roster moves.

Are Cooper Kupp and the Bears a good fit?

I admire DJ Moore’s gumption. It is pretty bold of Chicago’s WR1 to make a pitch for the Bears to add another standout pass catcher to the collection that has already been put together by Bears GM Ryan Poles. And because Moore did it, I found myself kicking around the idea of how it could work. For what it’s worth, I do not believe you need to work hard to find a schematic fit for Cooper Kupp in Ben Johnson’s offense. Kupp is a Pro Bowl receiver with reliable hands and crisp route-running skills. There is no doubt in my mind that Kupp is the type of player who could work in any offense.

And yet, I struggle to see a fit with the 2025 Chicago Bears. This isn’t to say that Cooper Kupp isn’t a good player. But if the Bears were to swing a trade for Kupp, the team would be stuck taking on a $12.5 million cap charge if (1) the Rams pick up the wideout’s roster bonus” and (2) consummate the deal after the bonus is due. As explained by the folks at OverTheCap, threading the needle in a Kupp trade would create salary cap space for the Rams while not handcuffing the acquiring team in the process because his deal has no more guaranteed money after this season.

If the Bears didn’t already have DJ Moore and Rome Odunze, I’d likely discuss the merits of kicking the tires on a Cooper Kupp trade. But for this team, which has needs in some other vital areas, it just doesn’t make sense. In the end, my hope is that Cooper Kupp and the Rams find the right trade partner — preferably not with a team in the NFC North.
