February 4, 2025 (KHARTOUM)—The Sudanese army said it recaptured the town of Al-Kamlin in Al-Jazirah state on Tuesday after days of heavy fighting with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said troops were advancing near the capital, Khartoum. The army launched a new offensive in Al-Jazirah state, in central Sudan, on Jan. 31 and has since retaken several towns, including Rufa’a, Tamboul and Al-Hasahisa, as well as areas in the East Nile locality of Khartoum state. “The army has liberated the city of Al-Kamlin and is determined to reach Khartoum,” said Abdel Moneim Abdel Baset, a commander of an army unit in Sennar. Videos circulated online showed soldiers in Al-Kamlin, with some residents celebrating their arrival. Sudan Tribune could not independently verify the videos. Al-Burhan, who also heads the ruling Sovereign Council, visited the town of Wad Abu Salih in the East Nile locality on Tuesday.
