The Greeley Fire Department is launching a monthly series of free CPR and “Stop The Bleed” classes.
The department will host the CPR classes on the second Wednesday of every month and the “Stop The Bleed” classes on the third Wednesday of every month, according to a department social media post.
Each will run from 6-7:30 p.m., at Fire Station 1, 1155 10th Ave. The first CPR class will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, and the first “Stop the Bleed” class will be the following Wednesday, Feb. 19.
“We’re incredibly excited and proud to be able to offer this life-saving education to our community on a regular basis, free of charge,” Community Education and Risk Reduction Specialist Bryan Eisen said. “We are hoping to empower our citizens with the knowledge they need to act in the minutes before our crews arrive.”
Family and Friends CPR, which is non-certifying, teaches the basics of how to perform CPR and use an AED, or automated external defibrillator, according to the department. The course will cover giving chest compressions and breaths, as well as working with others to provide life-saving care.
The “Stop The Bleed” class will focus on recognizing and treating life-threatening bleeding after injury. The curriculum, which is certified by the U.S. Department of Defense, will cover applying basic treatments by using tools available at the scene, along with commercially-available devices such as tourniquets, according to the release.
Classes are limited to the first 20 people to register. To register for the CPR class, go to shorturl.at/613M9. For the “Stop the Bleed” class, go to shorturl.at/6cbFD.
The department asks anyone with any questions to call 970-350-9510 or reach out on its Facebook page.
