(KRON) -- The first reported sighting of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the East Bay this year was over this weekend in Concord, according to the city's police department. The Concord Police Department was notified about ICE agents' presence in the city on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Concord police said it did not assist ICE in any way. The police department did not provide further details about why ICE was in the city. As of Sunday afternoon, it is unclear what ICE agents were doing in Concord.

A rally was held in Concord on Sunday in support of the concerned immigrant community. Video of the rally shows flags of countries, including Mexico and Guatemala, being displayed.

The City of Concord, Police Department is dedicated to serving and protecting all members of our community, regardless of immigration status. In compliance with California state law and the department’s existing policy, we do not enforce federal civil immigration laws, detain individuals based solely on immigration status, or conduct immigration raids. The focus is on public safety, building trust, and ensuring that everyone feels safe reporting crimes and seeking our assistance when needed.  The department has an existing policy, compliant with existing California state law (SB 54), related to immigration violations, which is posted and available to the public

ICE's presence in Concord over the weekend marks the third Bay Area city to have reported ICE agents' presence since President Donald Trump took office two weeks ago.

Under the Trump administration, concerns within the undocumented community have risen. In his first week in office, Trump has prioritized measures to crack down on illegal immigration.

The crackdown has made its impact in the Bay Area as concerns have risen within the local immigrant community. A San Francisco middle school student reported that they encountered an ICE agent on a Muni bus on Jan. 23. However, an ICE spokesperson later told KRON4 that the encounter reported by the student was not with an ICE officer.

A few days later, ICE agents were confirmed to have been conducting an operation in San Jose. Community leaders said "there is real fear" of families being separated.

KRON4 reached out to ICE for comment about the agency's presence in Concord. We are waiting to hear back.

This story will be updated.
