Shara Magomedov lost for the first time in his career at UFC Fight Night 250 and is now indicating he did so while battling a medical issue.
Hours after Magomedov (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) lost to Michael Page (23-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in Saturday’s co-main event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he issued a statement on Instagram in which he wrote his preparation and performance was impacted by a health condition, though remained unspecific to the nature of the ailment.
“The pirate sails into the harbor, but I will return!
“I knew all the risks when stepping in with such a nightmarish health condition and preparation. I felt that despite everything, I could still win—but it didn’t work out, and that’s it.
“Thank you to the @ufc organization for this opportunity and to everyone involved. I wanted to put on a show and meet expectations without canceling the fight.
“Thank you to everyone who stands by me in any situation! Alhamdulillah.”

Magomedov, 30, hits a bump in the road after four wins including two finishes in the UFC. His fighting style and image garnered much fandom and attention since even before his promotional debut in 2021. He now has the opportunity to attempt a bounce-back for the first time.
