Mendocino Seed Exchange events happening around county ...Middle East

News by : (Ukiah Daily Journal) -

Saving and sharing seeds can help you become more self-sufficient and independent, can help you build meaningful relationships with your friends and neighbors, and will empower you to participate in building a stronger and more secure food system, by growing heritage seeds and endangered plants.

Planting seeds and watching them grow is fun for all ages. (Contributed)

We encourage all local gardeners to participate in local seed sharing events by coming to take seeds from others and if possible offering seeds they’ve saved from their own gardens. We want to teach and advise about proper seed saving for germination and success. There will be scions (grafting branches for fruit trees) at some events.

Participate

Take home some seeds you want to plant this year. Show up and bring any seeds you are not going to plant out, and give them to someone else. Call your local Grange to participate in the upcoming exchanges by sharing seeds, with table space to display.

“Our mission is to conserve and promote America’s endangered and culturally diverse garden and food crops for future generations, and to share heritage, open pollinated heirloom seeds and plants with all.”

You can place an order for free seeds with Victory gardens, and they will mail them directly to your door/mailbox/pobox- at www.victorygardensforpeace.com/access-seed-bank (passcode: saveseeds).

They also have free gardening guides and how-to videos, and more gardening events are listed at www.victorygardensforpeace.com.
