BILL Belichick surprisingly believes it’s time to change the name of the Super Bowl trophy.

The UNC football head coach thinks the Lombardi Trophy should be renamed after a man who played a massive role in the 72-year-old’s six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots.

On his weekly appearance on the Let’s Go podcast with his co-host Jim Gray, Belichick shared the opinion that the NFL should rename the Super Bowl after Tom Brady.

“Maybe they should name it the Brady Trophy,” he said. “He won seven of them.”

The comment came during a conversation about the importance of players and coaches when it comes to winning it all.

Belichick thinks that even the best coaches in the world won’t come away with a championship ring without good players.

The 72-year-old then listed numerous people he coached during his tenures with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Patriots and said they deserve all the credit for contributing to his victories.

“Those are guys that won the games, man,” the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach said.

“I didn’t make any tackles. I didn’t make any kicks. That was [Adam] Vinatieri that made that kick in four inches of snow.”

Belichick also gave his props to NFL legend Bill Parcells and added, “You got to have good players as a coach, you want to give your players a chance to win.

“You want them to put them in a position where if they go out there and play well, they’ll have a chance to win.”

The Super Bowl trophy has been named after iconic coach Vince Lombardi since 1970 after he won the first two Super Bowls with the Green Bay Packers.

Belichick has the most Super Bowl victories of any individual in NFL history.

He won six as a leader of the Patriots and two as defensive coordinator for the Giants.

Belichick gave credit to Brady, who is the only player in NFL history with at least seven championships, including the pre-Super Bowl era.

Brady won his last title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after leaving Belichick and New England the previous year.

There appears to be no bad blood between the iconic duo, especially with Belichick’s latest opinion about handing the honor to the 47-year-old.

Currently, Brady is Fox’s NFL game analyst and is also a co-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

As for Belichick, he has taken the head coaching role of the North Carolina Tar Heels after being away from the NFL for one season.

Brady will be on the call of Super Bowl 59 which involves the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

And the duo will be part of a Fox show special, called A Bayou Adventure with Bill Belichick, and will air just ahead of the Super Bowl at 12pm ET on Sunday, February 9.
