The city of Pasadena, Monday, Jan. 27, announced that Manuel Carmona had been selected as the next director of public health.
Carmona became acting director after Dr. Ying-Ying Goh stepped down in July. Carmona has nearly two decades of experience in public health, according to the city, including 10 years working at the Pasadena Public Health Department.
“Public health services are essential for identifying, understanding, and addressing population health needs,” Carmona said in a statement. “I am honored and grateful for the trust the city manager has in me to lead the department. I am excited to continue leading the talented and mission-driven staff of over 100 Pasadena Public Health Department employees who work tirelessly to protect and advance equitable health outcomes for the Pasadena community.”
Carmona is a San Gabriel Valley native and a resident of Altadena. The public health department includes 115 full-time employees and has an annual budget of $21.1 million, according to the city.
