COLLEGE football announcer Kirk Herbstreit couldn’t contain his emotions after Monday night’s national championship.

Ohio State took down Notre Dame to claim the national championship, and Herbstreit was nearly in tears over the event.

Herbstreit has a special connection to Ohio State, playing quarterback for the team from 1989 to 1993.

Now, his son plays on the team, and he got to watch them take home a national title for the first time since 2014.

“Don’t start with me,” Herbstreit said after the win.

“I’m a little emotional. I’m just fired up for these guys. When I call these games I’m incredibly objective.

“I love all of these Ohio State teams, but this team because of what they went through to get to this point, you’re just happy.”

After Herbstreit made those comments, the cameras cut to video from inside the stadium while play-by-play man Chris Fowler gave some analysis.

When the cameras returned to the broadcasting duo, Herbstreit could be seen wiping his eyes with a tissue.

Herbstreit never won a national championship with Ohio State as their quarterback, but his son Zak now has a win as a tight end.

His father, Jim, also served as a captain for Ohio State in 1960.

Herbstreit is a stern defender of Ohio State, and continued his defense of the team as celebrations ensued.

He focused on head coach Ryan Day, who had Gatorade dumped on him after the big win, saying he receives too much criticism.

“I hear the stories behind the curtain,” Herbstreit said.

“I know what he and his wife and his family go through. It’s really, it’s tough.

“It’s tough to be a coach at a premium school where you’re expected to win every game.

“He handled it with such class.”

While Herbstreit delivered emotional comments about Ohio State, some college football fans thought he was biased towards his former team and shared their thoughts on social media.

“He’s not objective,” one fan said.

“Kirk is very hard to listen to, he’s always very biased,” another fan said.
