In case you missed it, on Thursday, the president-elect revealed that the Braveheart actor had been appointed to a new position in politics, acting as Trump’s "eyes and ears" in Hollywood, which the 78-year-old called "a great but very troubled place."
Along with Gibson, actors Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone were also tapped to create the "special envoy."
"These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!" the statement concluded.
“I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised,” Gibson told Variety shortly after Trump made his declaration. "Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can."
As Parade previously reported, Gibson was among the countless people who lost their homes to the deadly wildfires that began raging in parts of Southern California a little over a week ago.
"Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional," Gibson said at the time. "You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. You remember George Carlin talking about your stuff? I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders."
