DEION Sanders has reportedly made it clear what he would do if he was offered the Dallas Cowboys head coach role.

Owner and general manager of America’s Team, Jerry Jones, parted ways with former head coach Mike McCarthy earlier this week and has spoken with Sanders about the coaching vacancy.

On Thursday, NFL insider Ed Werder reported that he was told that Sanders “would almost certainly accept” the Cowboys head coaching job if the team offered it.

Werder also added that people around the current Colorado Buffaloes head coach is “encouraging him to pursue it” and that Jones is “enamored” about Sanders leading the charge in Dallas.

The report comes after Coach Prime and Jones discussed the heading coaching job on the phone this week.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter about his reaction to the conversation.

“I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing.”

Sanders also reiterated his past remarks about wanting to continue to finish what he started at the Colorado college football program.

“But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community,” the 57-year-old said.

Still, Sanders’ interest in the Cowboys opportunity stems from his playing career in the NFL.

He spent five seasons in Dallas in the 1990s and played a role in the team’s last Super Bowl win 30 years ago.

Sanders is a Cowboys icon and was an All-Pro for four seasons with the franchise.

The possibility of Sanders leaving Colorado after two seasons would come as his son, quarterback Shedeur, is expected to be one of the top selections in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Sanders has previously shared that he would be open to being an NFL head coach if it meant he was paired with Buffaloes products Shedeur and Shilo, his other son.

However, it would be difficult for the package deal to take place at Jerry World as the Cowboys would have to hire Sanders, and then trade up from the No. 12 overall pick to draft Shedeur.

ESPN’s Schefter reported that Sanders is a top candidate for the head coaching role.

But no formal interview between Sanders and the Dallas squad has yet to be scheduled.

The Cowboys are reportedly considering interviewing candidates and former head coaches Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier.

Schefter also reported that Dallas requested to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the role.

The report added that Moore will interview with the team virtually on Friday before the Eagles’ Divisional Round playoff game versus the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Before his coaching career, Moore was an NFL quarterback and played with the Cowboys for three seasons.

Moore retired in 2018 and has become an offensive coordinator for numerous teams, including the Cowboys.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Sanders have a long history as the NFL legend played with the franchise for five seasons – earning four All-Pro selections and winning a Super Bowl during that span
