The decision was made during the BCCI’s review meeting on Saturday which was attended by BCCI officials, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and captain Rohit Sharma. Although it is yet to be made public the selectors have moved forward from the opening batter and are now looking at the future roadmap.
Rohit came under the scanner after his poor performances as a captain as well as a batter since the last two Test series. Under his leadership, the India National Cricket Team faced a 3-0 whitewash at home against New Zealand, a thing that happened for the first time in Indian cricket.

There were even reports that Rohit Sharma had planned to announce retirement from Tests after the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. But some well-wishers convinced him not to retire, and hence, instead of retiring, he considered dropping himself.
