Directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed The Greatest Showman, Better Man envisions Williams as a human-like chimpanzee as Williams himself considers himself "less evolved" than most humans. The silliness of Williams as said primate can't help but bring a smile to your face, and the touching relationship he has with his grandmother will at times make you cry from laughter and sadness.
Better Man is a film based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams. Under the visionary direction of Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), the film is uniquely told from Williams’ perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Williams' journey from childhood to becoming the youngest member of chart-topping boy band Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist, all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.

Who directed Better Man?
The choice to have Williams portrayed not by a younger actor, but by a CGI monkey is certainly a risky one. However, it's based on Williams often telling Gracey that he felt like a trained monkey while performing on stage. Rather than deal with casting a look-alike actor and dealing with an impression, Gracey opted to use a CGI monkey to depict for audiences not Williams as we see him, but as he sees himself.
