Clemson has bolstered its roster through the NCAA transfer portal, adding former Alabama linebacker Jeremiah Alexander. A highly coveted prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle, Alexander was ranked as the nation’s top edge defender and the No. 18 overall player, per the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-2, 249-pound redshirt sophomore spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide, appearing in 27 games and contributing on both defense and special teams. Over his time at Alabama, Alexander tallied nine tackles, including five in the 2024 season after recovering from an early injury.
Initially an inside linebacker, he transitioned to the outside in 2023. Alexander played high school football at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, where he was teammates with current Clemson standout Peter Woods. Clemson heavily pursued him during his recruitment, but Alexander committed to Alabama in 2021, selecting the Tide over Clemson, Georgia, and UCF.
This addition underscores head coach Dabo Swinney’s evolving approach to roster management. While initially hesitant to embrace the transfer portal, Swinney is now proving he’s willing to do what it takes to keep Clemson competitive at the highest level. Alexander becomes Clemson’s third transfer portal acquisition this offseason, following wide receiver Tristan Smith (Southeast Missouri State) and defensive end Will Heldt (Purdue).
