Respected NBC Reporter Dead at 62 ...Saudi Arabia

NBC Washington announced the network's devastating loss on Threads earlier on Wednesday, Jan. 8, revealing that he died the day before "following complications from recent cardiac arrest." They did not elaborate on what led to the cardiac arrest. 

The journalist was a native of Washington, D.C. After launching his television news career in Buffalo, N.Y.—following a stint in radio—he returned to his hometown in 2006, joining NBC News4.

"Ward had a way with words and music. He shined when he had a pen, a microphone — or a guitar – in his hands," they wrote. 

Ward is survived by his three children, Derrick, Jr., Ian and Marisa, among other family members. Details surrounding his memorial service have not yet been finalized or revealed. 

"Oh no!" another wrote. "I have always valued his reports. Dignified and professional. Such a great loss."
