The 61-year-old actor took to Instagram on Monday, Jan. 6, to issue a warning about an apparent scam targeting his fans.

"Today, AI can create the illusion of my face and voice. Scammers may look and sound just like the real me. But, neither I, nor my team, will ask you for money or your personal information."

Depp went on to emphasize that he and his team are "actively working to combat these illicit schemes."
He went on to say that he is not on X/Twitter, Snapchat, or Discord.
Depp is far from the only star to deal with this type of situation, as online scams attempting to profit from celebrity fandoms are common. In December, Candace Cameron Bure informed her followers about an identity theft scam targeting her podcast listeners.
"Do not engage," she added. "If you unknowingly do, never give them access to your FB or Instagram account! They say they need all access to your account [sic] in order to broadcast the interview. It’s a scam!! I’m sorry if this has happened to you. You’re not the only one who has been duped, I promise ?. These people are pros and I’m saddened for everyone who has been tricked and affected by them."
