As expected, the evening included impassioned winner speeches, quippy jokes, and unforgettable red-carpet looks. Of course, there were also plenty of weird, wild and unexpected things that happened as well.

Low: Strange, wordy fun facts written out on the lower third

Another odd addition to the 2025 Golden Globes was the plethora of random facts about nominees, winners and presenters splashed on the bottom of the screen. Do you care what Zoe Saldana's favorite karaoke song is? Did you need to know that Demi Moore is an "avid doll collector"? It is shocking that Hiroyuki Sanada played baseball when he was 8 years old? Welp. Now you know. Or you would if you could speed read the tidbits before they were yanked off the screen.

"My wife and I did a shot of tequila with Mario Lopez. Definitely feeling that. Whole speech is gone. Rip it, Kieran!"—Kieran Culkin accepting his Golden Globe pic.twitter.com/1WvSrxp46c

Whoa: Kieran Culkin's acceptance speech

Nikki Glaser just interrupted her own musical number by saying "wait, this sucks?!" after trying to mash up Wicked and Conclave lol"You...will...be...Pope-ular...I'm embarrassing myself in front of Elton John?!" pic.twitter.com/lAnRKFU5Zd

High: Conclave wins Best Screenplay

This awards season's universal crowd pleaser is the papal thriller Conclave. Making a movie about a bunch of old men locked in a room edge-of-your-seat riveting is quite a feat, and Peter Straughan certainly made it look easy. It seemed likely that one of the flashier, more dramatic films would nab the prize, but the Globes went with the more fun choice.

High: Flow wins Best Animated Feature

In a race against animation juggernauts like Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, it was a wonderful surprise to see the tiny Latvian silent independent film about a cat take home the win. Parade named Flow one of its best 10 films of the year, and this win is highly deserved.

High: Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy as presenters

Another stellar pair of presenters, the two comedians "used their platform" to raise awareness for some important causes associated with the Best TV Comedy nominees. I will never say no to a Cocaine Bear joke.

Whoa: "Final cut tiebreak goes to the director"

In his speech following The Brutalist's win in the Best Drama category, Brady Corbet made a plea to producers to let directors make the movies they want to make even if they don't seem commercial to the studio. The Brutalist, which is so long it has a built-in intermission, seemed unsellable on paper, but has become a massive indy hit this year.

Win: Karla Sofía Gascón gives a rousing speech for transgender rights
