AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A polar cold front will move over our eastern counties this afternoon. There will be a chance of light rain ahead of it but very little will be measured. The front will leave a northwest wind that will signal the beginning of the coldest air of this young winter season.
Wind gusts exceeding 20 to 25 mph will occur this afternoon making the cooler air feel colder.
As the clock approaches midnight most temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s, leading to an areawide freeze Monday morning with most lows in the mid to upper 20s.
Austin-Camp Mabry will have its first freeze of the season Monday morning. It will be the second-latest freeze ever in Austin.
A stout north wind will gust as high as 15 to 20 mph overnight to sunrise Monday. Those of you out the door at 7 a.m. will find wind chills in the teens.
Tomorrow and Tuesday will be mainly sunny with highs "warming" to the mid to upper 40s.
An upper-level low will land in southwest Arizona/northwest Mexico Wednesday morning. This weather feature will pull up Pacific moisture. As the low travels to the northeast it increases the chance for rain and possible winter-type precipitation Wednesday night to Thursday morning when temperatures fall below freezing.
Thursday will be a wet day with a 70% chance of rain but don't be surprised to find a wintry mix in some of the Hill Country. More of a wintry mix is expected, according to this morning's American model, for the Hill Country Thursday night to Friday morning.
Rain ends during the morning/early afternoon Friday leaving bright and dry weather for Saturday.
