DENVER (KDVR)— Travelers' weather woes while heading through Denver International Airport were not over Sunday after two days of hundreds of flight delays and dozens of cancellations, with more cancellations and delays reported.

Sunday morning was part of a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to below-freezing temperatures across the state that clung to the region through the afternoon. The Pinpoint Weather Team was forecasting Denver only to reach 29 degrees on Sunday. That meant anyone heading to the Broncos game to see if the team clinched a playoff spot needed to bundle up.

That also meant difficulties at the airport. However, the delays and cancellations were not nearly as severe as on Friday, when over 800 flights were delayed from DIA, but only 12 were canceled, or nearly as severe as on Saturday, when over 1,100 flights were delayed from the airport and another 70 were canceled.

On Sunday, FlightAware reported that 95 flights at DIA were canceled and another 402 were delayed at about 2:30 p.m. Of those canceled flights, 44 originated at DIA and another 50 had DIA as their destination.

The hardest-hit airlines were United and Southwest, with United reported 27 canceled flights and 110 delays, and Southwest reported 30 canceled and another 114 delayed. SkyWest was reporting the most cancelations, 36, but only 87 delayed flights.

Other airports were reporting far higher numbers for canceled flights: Kansas City International Airport had 283 canceled flights Sunday, but only three delayed flights, according to FlightAware.

Part of the delays are due to a hazardous weather outlook across the high country and eastern plains of Colorado, which will, bring very cold temperatures and widespread light snow throughout the area on Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. However, light snow and temperatures in the teens were also snarling some travel in the mountains. A winter weather advisory was in effect through 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Low temperatures on Tuesday night are forecasted to reach single digits and some areas may reach almost zero on the plains, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
