Woman missing for 52 years found alive

West Midlands Police said finding Sheila Fox after she vanished from Coventry in 1972 solves one of its longest-running missing person investigations.

At the end of December, the force published a renewed appeal to help find Ms Fox, which included one grainy picture of her from around the time she vanished that was recently found by officers.

Ms Fox after more than five decades, "having searched through every piece of evidence to find a photo of Sheila".

Det Sgt Shaw added: "Every missing person has a story, and their families and friends deserve to know what happened to them and, hopefully, be reunited with them."

“A single photo of Sheila from around the time of her disappearance was found by officers investigating and published on our website and social media. Within hours of the appeal, members of the public got in touch with information which led the team to her.”

DS Jenna Shaw, from the cold case investigation team, said: “We searched through every piece of evidence we could find and managed to locate a photo of Sheila.

Sheila Fox were facilitated by the release of a photograph from her youth, which prompted numerous public tips leading to her location . This aspect underscores the importance of community engagement in resolving cold cases; it illustrates how public awareness can be pivotal in bringing closure to families affected by such tragedies.
