Throngs of Syrians celebrate new year in a Damascus freed from Assad ...Middle East

Revolutionary songs rang out loud in downtown Damascus overnight Tuesday as hundreds of joyous Syrians marked the first new year's celebration without an Assad in power for more than 50 years. The city's Umayyad Square was packed with revellers who gazed up at fireworks as gunshots resounded from Mount Qasioun overlooking the capital.
