The Blues beat the Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium. This will be the 16th Winter Classic game, which began as an annual tentpole event for the NHL in 2008. The second official Winter Classic game was the first trip to Wrigley Field on New Year’s Day in 2009. This Winter Classic will be the third outdoor game for the Blues franchise. It will be the seventh for the Blackhawks organ-I-zation (the most of any NHL team). This is the first outdoor appearance for the Blackhawks since the 2019 NHL Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium. The Blackhawks have a 1-5-0 record in their first six outdoor games. The only win: against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stadium Series at Soldier Field. This Winter Classic will be the 42nd outdoor regular-season game played in the NHL. Of the previous 41, 25 have been hosted within football stadiums, 13 have been played inside baseball stadiums, two were played atop a golf course, and one inside a soccer stadium.
