‘Forget about it’ – Simon Jordan sends strong message to Leeds over Steven Gerrard manager links ...Middle East

Leeds United have been urged to steer clear of Steven Gerrard as a possible successor to boss Daniel Farke.

The Whites were in relentless form, sweeping aside promotion hopefuls Bristol City 4-0 on Monday night, with Farke leading the way from the dugout.

His exploits in steering Leeds to automatic promotion has seen his stock rise among the club’s supporters after falling agonisingly short in last season’s Championship play-off final.

However, reports suggest that Farke is yet to receive the seal of approval from everyone at Elland Road, namely the club’s owners 49ers Enterprises consortium.

Fans have since given their backing to the German with many believing he deserves the opportunity to manage the club among the elite next term.

But club chiefs have privately expressed their concerns at whether Farke is the man to lead the club in next season’s Premier League.

The doubts are raised from Farke’s past brush with the top flight when he was relegated as Norwich boss in the 2019/20 campaign.

He was later sacked early in the 2021/22 season after leading the Canaries back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Senior figures have jetted into Leeds from San Francisco to hold talks with Farke amid reports they have sounded out possible replacements.

One of the names in contention is former Rangers, Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard who has been out of work since leaving the Saudi Pro League club in January.

However, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes the club’s owners must keep a cool head when deciding whether to stick with Farke or not.

“The argument that they are coming up with 100 points – well so did Leicester and so did Ipswich and they’re coming back down with 20 points,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

Simon Jordan urged the Leeds board to do everything to ensure Leeds are Premier League club at the end of next season Leeds sealed a return to the Premier League last week and still have the opportunity to win the Championship titleGetty

“The job of the Leeds board and ownership is to make sure that those fans are singing about a Premier League club at the end of next season.”

Asked how they go about ensuring Leeds are still a top-flight club in 12 months, Jordan said: “You make the right decisions if you think Farke has got the tools.

“He’s taken teams up and got them relegated, that was the narrative last week. But with context, he got £9million (to spend) at Norwich. You can’t judge him by that.”

Jordan then provided a stinging assessment of the Gerrard links, claiming that the Liverpool legend does not have what it takes to keep Leeds in the top flight.

“If you’re telling me you’re bringing in Steven Gerrard to manage the situation, forget about it,” Jordan added.

“In no parallel universe does Steven Gerrard merit managing Leeds United into the Premier League.

“He’s got no credentials for it,” Jordan continued. “I don’t care what he won up in Scotland, we’ve seen Steven Gerrard in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

“If you bring in someone who’s got proven chops in the Premier League then that’s a different argument entirely.”

No decision has been made on the future of Farke who has two years remaining on his existing deal and any move to part ways at this stage would see him recoup a year’s worth of compensation.
