FPBD: Body found under Noyo Bridge likely missing teen ...Middle East

News by : (Ukiah Daily Journal) -

A body found under the Noyo Bridge Monday morning is believed to be that of a missing Fort Bragg teen, the Fort Bragg Police Department reported.

According to the FBPD, a witness reported around 8:15 a.m. Dec. 23 “finding what they believed to be human remains underneath the south end of the Noyo Bridge,” Chief Neil Cervenka said in a video posted to Facebook. “While the remains were in a state that made them unidentifiable, the clothing and jewelry on them were similar to that of Roy Mora, who has been missing since Dec. 7.”

Cervenka also noted that the “last sighting of Mora was on Dec. 7 at approximately 8 p.m., when, on video surveillance, he is seen walking south on the east side of the Noyo Bridge. Since that time, there have been no confirmed sightings, and there has been no further video surveillance of Roy.”

In addition, the FBPD reports that Mora’s cell phone was found on the bridge the night of Dec. 7, and “the individual who found the phone entered the bridge from the north (almost three hours) after Roy last appeared on video walking across the bridge. The review of surveillance footage confirmed Roy was walking alone when he left the view of surveillance cameras,” and Cervenka adds that “video surveillance also confirms that there was no one on the east side of the bridge for over 30 minutes when Roy was last seen.

“There is no evidence of foul play,” Cervenka continued, stating that his “entire police department is devastated and is grieving with our community. Our entire staff has been working continuously to find Roy, and through that, have come to know him. Our thoughts are with Roy’s family and friends, (and) we ask for patience and kindness for them during this time.”

He also explained that pictures of the personal items found with the remains were “shown to Roy’s mother, who confirmed that they were similar to the items worn by Roy the night he went missing.”

However, he noted that the remains will need to be “positively identified through DNA, which could take several weeks, and is being completed by the Mendocino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”

During the recovery of the body, Cervenka added, “strong waves took the remains off the shore and into the water. Three of our officers went into the water to recover those remains so they could be identified.”

He also asked anyone who has “any tips, leads or information, please do not hesitate to call the Fort Bragg Police Department at (707)964-0200 or email room-299199@room.veoci.com.”

The FBPD thanked the “Fort Bragg Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard for their assistance.”
