The Tiktoker (@platinumxcenter) showed off the disaster in a video that went viral as horrified viewers searched for solutions.

In the clip, the driver showed the devastating effects of taping Christmas lights to the side of a car.

Rows of lights were stuck to the Tesla Model X with dozens of pieces of masking tape, which left a huge mess when removed.

The driver recorded himself peeling one piece off and revealed the jaw-dropping amount of residue left to clean up.

“I’m going to have fun taking these off for sure,” the driver joked while recording the sheer amount of lights and tape on the car.

In the caption, the horrified driver said he might even need a new car and said “rest in peace” to $100,000.

“Who let me do this, and why did no one tell me this was going to happen?” he wrote in the on-screen text.

In the comments, viewers cringed at the terrible decision but questioned whether the TikToker was really out six figures.

Several users advised him to buy Goo Gone and gently wipe off the sticky adhesive.

One viewer said the paint would come off but added that the driver could be looking at an even worse issue.

“The scratches from the lights banging off the paint at speed will need to be buffed out,” he said.

He estimated that the festive driver would need to pay $500 to $1,000 for a buffing and touch-up service.

Most of the comments were questions over the actual value of his car.

A brand new 2025 Tesla Model X starts at around $80,000, but with added specs, it could be upwards of $100,000.

How often should you clean your car?

Professionals recommend an interval that may be surprising when cleaning your car.

Depending on where you live and what your typical day looks like, the suggested interval for cleaning a vehicle is every two weeks.

“Regularly washing your car removes everyday contaminants like tar, road debris, and bird droppings that can ruin your car’s paint job over time,” wrote Progressive.

“But there’s no one right answer to this question — it depends on factors like your lifestyle, the climate where you live, and how you store your vehicle when you’re not driving it.”

However, if applying a fresh coat of wax after every cleaning session or if the vehicle is parked in a garage, cleaning may not have to be done as regularly.

“Waxing your car creates a barrier between your clear coat – the layer on top of the paint – and outside elements, so it won’t be able to absorb and affect the exterior of your car,” the site continued.

However, many critics didn’t believe he sank such a shocking sum into the car and asked for proof of the payment.

“Is there $70,000 in the trunk?” one user joked.

Another person teased, “Thank God I didn’t do this to my $350,000 2016 Toyota Camry.”

But the TikToker stuck to his guns and said he was indeed paying the bank the massive fee.

As for the value after the embarrassing fail – that’s up for debate.

Drivers should know that driving with Christmas lights is illegal in most US states, and offenders can face fines of up to $1,000.

Before decorating your ride, it’s crucial to research state law.

Another driver in Wyoming was blasted online by cops for decorating their ride.
