Helluva win last night, eh folks? The Blackhawks didn’t score first and were chasing two entering the third period — both relatively uncharted territory for this team. But after not folding their tents on Sunday night against an Islanders team that blitzed them out of the barn just a couple days prior, the Blackhawks continued to work and got the payoff with a stunning three-goal rally to beat the best team in the Eastern Conference.
Yeah, that felt good.

— HockeyStatCards (@hockeystatcards) December 18, 2024 First shoutout this morning: Louis Crevier. He got boat raced by Pierre-Luc Dubois on the first goal last night, a potential learning moment for the young defenseman. After the game, interim head coach Anders Sorensen joked that it got between his feet and it’s kinda hard when you’re that tall to deal with something between your feet. Sorensen kept putting Crevier out there and he continue to respond. He finished the night skating 15:14 with one shot on net, one blocked shot and three hits. The hit we’ll all remember is him putting the hammer on Tom Wilson in the closing second.Crevier crushed Wilson pic.twitter.com/c5NrAr8AKH
— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) December 18, 2024 Second shoutout from last night goes to Nolan Allan. I asked Sorensen about him before the game and the interim head coach, who had Allan for the full season in Rockford last year, complimented him for knowing who he is. That’s exactly what Luke Richardson said about Allan previously. He’s a very self-aware player for his age/experience, which has benefitted him and the Blackhawks. Last night he skated 17:22 with two hits, one blocked shot and one takeaway. He was plus-two. With the depth the Blackhawks have on the blue line right now it’s increasingly hard to take his steady play out of the lineup. Which is great for both him and the organ-I-zation. I wanted to open with those two shoutouts because things are going to get messy at some point in the not-too-distant future for Sorensen and the coaches. Seth Jones and Alec Martinez skated before the morning skate yesterday and are progressing. At some point there are going to be some tough decisions forced on the coaches. And those decisions are getting harder because the current group on the blue line (I’ll include Wyatt Kaiser here even though he was a scratch last night) has been playing really well in Jones’ absence.Petr Mrazek (left groin strain), Seth Jones (right foot) and Alec Martinez (neck) are all on the ice before morning skate. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/n55ILouG7C
— Charlie Roumeliotis (@CRoumeliotis) December 17, 2024 Ryan Donato continues to be a fabulous surprise this season. He now has 11 goals, which still leads the team. It was also pretty cool that his dad was in town to see him power the game-winning goal in to finish the dramatic win.“I'm sure he'll talk about something else that I did wrong. … Actually, I'd rather not have it any other way where he can tell me the truth about my game.”—Ryan Donato on dad Ted Donato being in attendance to see his 11th goal, the game-winner pic.twitter.com/r4mjmJgQjR
— Phillip Thompson (@_phil_thompson) December 18, 2024 My thoughts on the Blackhawks potentially pursuing Kaapo Kakko, who isn’t happy with the Rangers: no thanks. Just because he was a high pick doesn’t mean he’s a guy to overpay for now. I’m just not a fan. I include this only because he was a no-show with no explanation at the morning skate yesterday: Taylor Hall is the only Blackhawks player on the updated Trade Board at The Athletic. He was in the lineup last night, finishing with two shots on net, one blocked shots and one takeaway in 16:43 on the ice.NHL trade board 2.0: Rangers take center stage, plus new targets ahead of the holiday roster freeze t.co/InYtfh229M

The Cubs traded Cody Bellinger to the Yankees… finally. So what does that mean for their payroll? The important question for the Chicago Bears the rest of the way this season is: how high can they climb in the 2025 NFL Draft? And the NBA is still trying to find the right gimmick to make the fans — hell, the players — care about their All-Star Game. Now, it’s going to be a “tournament.” Read More Details
