US lawmakers have criticised what they say is the government’s lack of transparency, creating an information vacuum that has been filled with a variety of online theories, ranging from Iranian espionage to a fake alien invasion. Here are some of the theories…

Conspiracy theories
Alex Jones, – who once falsely claimed the Sandy Hook shootings were staged – has previously posted about Project Blue Beam, a theory that alleges, without evidence, that global elites are planning to stage fake supernatural events to deceive nations into uniting under a world government.

In Massachusetts, two people have been charged with trespassing after allegedly conducting a “hazardous drone operation” near the airspace of Boston’s main airport on Saturday evening.
Planes
Officials say that many of the objects may be planes. New Jersey is a region with a number of airports and air bases and a huge amount of air traffic overhead and visible towards the borizons.
AI
Many of the videos on social media may have been AI-generated, adding to the hysteria.
Congressman Mike Waltz of Florida, recently chosen as the incoming White House national security adviser, said the sightings highlight significant gaps in co-ordination between local law enforcement and federal agencies.
