LAREDO, Texas (AP) — United States and Guatemalan authorities have announced the arrest of six people charged with human smuggling linked to a semi-trailer truck crash in Mexico in 2021 that killed more than 50 migrants. The people were arrested in Guatemala and Texas. They were accused of running a human trafficking ring that moved migrants from Guatemala through Mexico to the U.S. An indictment unsealed Monday said the smugglers would move migrants on foot, inside microbuses, cattle trucks and tractor trailers.
