Elton John Tells Fans About His Right Eye Vision Loss

News by : (PRESSBEE) -

Elton John has been grappling with a “severe” eye infection that has resulted in the loss of sight in his right eye for the past four months. The infection developed during the summer while he was in the south of France, a situation that took a toll on his health. In September, the beloved singer-songwriter took to Instagram to inform his fans about the infection and its impact on his vision. He noted, “It will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” indicating the seriousness of his condition.

Despite facing these health challenges, Elton maintains a positive outlook on life, describing himself as “the luckiest man in the world.” He expressed immense pride in his family and career, particularly with the upcoming release of his documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late.” Slated to premiere on Disney+ on December 13, the film offers an in-depth exploration of his remarkable 50-year career, culminating in his final North American concert in 2022.

In an interview, Elton candidly discussed his current situation, stating, “I don’t know” about the progress of his new record. He acknowledged that it had been a while since he had been able to work on new music, attributing this to his vision loss. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France. It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest. There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment,” he explained.

Although Elton mentioned that he could manage a sit-down interview, he was uncertain about his ability to enter the studio and record new music. During a recent appearance on "Good Morning America," he elaborated on his vision challenges when asked about his new album. “It’s been a while since I’ve done anything,” he reiterated, highlighting how his condition has impacted his creative process. “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment… going into the studio and recording, I don’t know.” He added that while he could participate in an interview, reading lyrics or watching anything remained difficult for him.

Despite his sight being affected, Elton John’s spirit remains unbroken. He recently collaborated with singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile on a new song titled “Never Too Late,” which serves as the soundtrack for his documentary. Directed by R.J. Cutler and his husband, David Furnish, the documentary premiered in theaters on November 15 and will be available on Disney+ starting December 13.

The focal point of the interview was the new Disney+ documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late,” which chronicles his extraordinary career spanning over five decades. When Robin Roberts inquired about the status of his latest album, Elton took the opportunity to share his health update, providing fans with insight into his current journey.
