The Cubs got transaction happy yesterday, trading Alfonsin Rosario for Eli Morgan, DFA’ing Patrick Wisdom, acquiring Matt Thaiss, and DFA’ing Trey Wingenter. All are moves at the relative margin of the roster, but, on their face, I do like these moves. They’re fine. Morgan, in particular, is a really nice addition for the bullpen. The upshot of the whole mix of moves is that they could leave the Cubs with a key bullpen addition, a back-up (or third) catcher, AND cost savings on both, AND a little payroll opened by way of the DFAs.
