BUFFALO, N.Y. — In an update on the federal trial of the Buffalo Tops mass shooter, Payton Gendron has requested to waive his appearance at future court proceedings. The judge has indicated that Gendron may need to be present in court if witness testimony is involved. Gendron is currently serving a life sentence on state charges. His death penalty trial is scheduled for next September. Gendron killed 10 people and injured three others in a racist mass shooting targeting Black individuals.
