The 2024 College Basketball game between North Carolina and Georgia Tech was a thrilling display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. The two teams clashed on the court, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer sounded.
From the opening tip-off, it was evident that both teams were evenly matched. North Carolina's offense showcased their exceptional shooting abilities, while Georgia Tech's defense proved to be formidable. The first half saw a back-and-forth battle with neither team gaining a significant advantage.
No. 3 North Carolina (17-4, 9-1 ACC) fell to Georgia Tech (10-11, 3-7 ACC) 74-73 on Tuesday night at the McCamish Pavilion. 
RJ Davis was the only North Carolina player to reach double digits in scoring on the night, finishing with 28 points.  
The Tar Heels and Yellow Jackets traded baskets early. After Davis opened UNC’s scoring with his signature floater, he cashed in on a stepback three just a few minutes later. 
Georgia Tech, needing any boost in support it can get and perhaps a miracle at this stage in the season to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, is 3-12 against the Tar Heels in their past 15 meetings. And UNC, boasting a 72-27 all-time record against the Yellow Jackets, has reeled off three in a row in the series.
However, this outing has a "trap game" tag. The Tar Heels, whose only losses this season came on neutral courts, must guard against looking ahead to Saturday's rivalry showdown against Duke in Chapel Hill.
Cameron Johnson, in his fifth season as a pro and first full campaign in Brooklyn, is now averaging 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as a full-time starter. He's shooting 45.6 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from three, and 72.4 percent at the foul line.
The loss could be attributed to any number of things. Perhaps UNC just had an off-night shooting. Maybe Georgia Tech, under first-year head coach Damon Stoudamire, is finally realizing its potential and is ready for a second-half surge. Or UNC could have had Duke on the back of its mind with a home game against the Blue Devils set for Saturday evening.
Regardless of what happened, this is still a brutal loss for the Tar Heels, and fans let their feelings known on the matter.
