LeBron James sat out the Los Angeles Lakers' 122-119 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday because of soreness in his left calf.
L.A. was playing the second night of a back-to-back, and James had logged 40 minutes in Monday's 127-125 loss at the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony Davis stepped up with 37 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals -- his third straight game with 37 points or more -- to extend San Antonio's losing streak to 18 games.
It was the first leg of a back-to-back that James had missed this season -- having completed all four of them up to this point -- and just the second missed game overall for the 21-year veteran.
Lakers are aiming to rebound from a tough loss against the Mavericks despite a stellar performance from Anthony Davis and LeBron James, the Lakers couldn’t seal the deal in a close game, falling 127-125.
Meanwhile, San Antonio is currently on a 17-game losing streak and desperately needs a turnaround after another loss, this time to the Rockets in a 93-82 game. Victor Wembanyama led the team with 15 points and an impressive 18 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their offensive struggles, shooting just 35.6% as a team.
Can the Spurs pull off the upset and snap their losing streak tonight, tune in and find out when the Lakers face the Spurs.
Davis and Wembanyama will make for an entertaining matchup as they are both great defensive centers, but Davis having a bigger and stronger frame should be able to score against the French big man. L.A. will have to squash the hopes of any chance of the Spurs snapping their losing streak in the first quarter, giving a young team confidence will lead to a more competitive game than expected.
San Antonio struggles offensively in the bottom four in the Western Conference averaging 109.4 points a contest and last defensively in the conference giving up 121.4 a game. Accompanied by not protecting home court with a 1-10 record, this should be two straight wins against a struggling team.
The Lakers will have the day off Thursday before playing the Spurs in San Antonio again on Friday.
