2023 Week 13: Arkansas vs. Missouri 48-14

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Arkansas Razorbacks (4-8, 1-7) in a 48-14 victory in the regular season finale for the Battle Line Rivalry - presented by Shelter Insurance - at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

KJ Jefferson was knocked out of the game on the Razorbacks second possession when Daylan Carnellforced him to fumble after a 22-yard run and Darius Robinson recovered.

The Razorbacks (4-8, 1-7 SEC) closed 2023 with a 48-13 loss to No. 9 Missouri as former Springfield High School and current Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz outclassed his counterpart in Sam Pittman. Arkansas fell behind early, lost its starting quarterback to an injury and only displayed a fight with literal punches.

Friday's result showed just how far these two programs are from one another with both coaches finishing their fourth years in charge. Missouri is one of the best teams in the SEC, while Arkansas was undoubtedly the worst team in the West division.

The Missouri defense completely stifled a Razorbacks offense that lost its starting quarterback K.J. Jefferson to injury in the first half. With backup quarterback Jacolby Criswell at the helm, the Razorbacks never found on offensive rhythm, their first snap in Tigers territory coming with under two minutes left in the third quarter.

Missouri offense was once again running back Cody Schrader, who put up a career-high 217 rushing yards, and did not even touch the gridiron in the fourth quarter as it was a blowout. Schrader carried the ball 27 times and got into the end zone once, increasing his lead over LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels for most rushing yards in the SEC.

Drinkwitz graduated from Arkansas Tech and was offensive coordinator at Springdale High, about 10 miles north of the University of Arkansas, before starting his collegiate coaching career. … Pittman had faced questions about his job security as recently as Sunday morning before athletic director Hunter Yurachek released a statement that Pittman would keep his job at least until the beginning of the 2024 season.
